The Charism of the Daughters of the Sacred Hearts, the gift of the Holy Spirit to the prophetic intuition of St. John Antony Farina.
Our Charism
Embracing the spiritual heritage of our Holy Founder, the daughters of the Sacred Hearts contemplate the Heart of Christ pierced on the cross, from which springs forth the unfathomable riches of grace and mercy. The wound is a sign and seal of God who reveals and gives Himself; it is an invitation to a response of love and reparation.
St. John Antony Farina says “Charity is the base that generates the merit of all, is the cornerstone of every operation, the soul of all holiness, so it tempers your intelligence and makes you all for everything”. (J.A., Inside the Amplitude, 88).
The humility of the heart leads us to recognise our total dependence on God in all things; we urge ourselves to accept our limitations and keep our full trust in God alone; encourages us to work in any field “hidden in the Heart of Jesus and unknown to the world” (cf. Letter, 30).
According to the thinking of St. Farina, humility should be the external characteristic feature of his daughters as they are having special preference to the poorest and the most unfortunate. He also demands an inner humility which is expressed in ‘considering oneself low’ embodying the expression of the Psalm, “Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory!” (Ps. 115: 1).
Humility is the foundation and the support of responsible obedience and motivated by love and it is exact in smaller rules (cf. Reg.disc.autografy, art.7, p.1). Our Holy Founder exhorted: “we do all our works on the measurement of obedience”; and so he taught: “It is not obedience constraint to freedom; it is instead an outlet for freedom, real security to reach the port” (12 aD).
Next to the Heart of Jesus, Farina points out as an example and support, is the Heart of Mary. He entrusts his institution to the heavenly protection of St. Dorothy, virgin and martyr. He himself is a shining example of total dedication to God and to others. St. Maria Bertilla Boscardin embodied the charisma of charity in the Mission.
