Canonical Visit of Rev. Mother General and General Councilors in India.

Provincial House - Archana

On 14th September, 2018 Rev. Mother General Sr. Maria Teresa Pena and her Councilors Sr. Luisella Gosmin, Sr. Luciana Tognon, Sr. Roberta Dalla Stella and Sr. Julia Lopez arrived at Kochi International Airport to begin their canonical visit. At the Airport Indian Provincial Rev. Sr. Biji Mulackal and the representatives of the Province gave them a welcome and accompanied them to Archana. At the provincial House they were welcomed with a beautiful dance by the postulants. With the accompaniment of dance all proceeded to the chapel in procession. Sr. Provincial welcomed the Mother General and Councilors with warm words. It was followed by the community singing of Magnificat. After lunch the visitors proceeded for a much deserved siesta. The Eucharistic celebration in the evening was presided over by Rev. Fr. Francis, the Rector of Don Bosco College, Keezhmadu.

On 16th after the morning adoration everybody went to the parish church for Eucharistic celebration. Holy Mass was followed by breakfast hosted by the Parish Priest along with the Parish Councilors. At 3.00 pm Mother General invited all the sisters of the provincial community for a Gospel sharing based on Mark. 8: 27-35. Then Sr. Luisella went on with the meeting of Novices, and . Sr. Luciana with the Postulants. Mother General used this opportunity for individual meeting with the sisters.

Poovar Community

On 17th the Visitors went to the Poovar community. Sisters of the Poovar community extended to them a very hearty welcome with shawls and garlands. Later they proceeded to the chapel to sing the Magnificat. On 18th the Team visited Angel school and assessed its strengths and drawbacks. In the noon they had small outing to the beach to be caressed by the gentle breeze and to sing praises of the Creator who made the deep blue sea and its mighty waves. On 19th Sr. Roberta also reached the Poovar community from where they moved to Moongode community. On the way to Moongode they paid a visit to the Archbishop of Trivandrum. On 20th there was a teachers’ gathering in Poovar community Sr. Anisha took a session for them followed with another by Sr. Roberta.

Panpoli and Anbu Illam

On 21st they travelled to Panpoli community in Tamil Nadu. After meeting the community they Team went to see Anbu Illam and the services rendered by the sisters back in collaboration with the MCBS fathers. After dinner with the inmates of Anbu Illam they returned to Panpoli. Next day they visited the Sacred Heartschool of Panpoli where two of our sisters are teaching.

On 23rd they returned to Archana. On 24th they went to the community in Ezhupunna. The community welcomed them with a typical Indian dance .They had interaction with the various activities of the sisters such as the formation of aspirants, conducting of nursery school and services rendered in the diocesan school.

On 25thSeptember there was gathering at Angamaly for sisters the sisters who are working in the health sector. 28 sisters were present for the meeting. The gathering commenced with a prayer in the Chapel, from where proceeded to the venue of the meeting. Sr. Luciana shared her valuable experience in Brazil Mission. Sr. Julia also addressed the gathering. Dr. Elizabeth a famous gynecologist, was the main resource person for the meeting. The day concluded with the greetings by Mother General and her councilors.

Visit to Andhra Pradesh

On 27th September they travelled to Andhra Pradesh. First they visited members of Vijayawada community who received them with a welcome dance. Moving in procession to the chapel the sisters sang Magnificat in Italian and the Superior of the community Sr. Jancy extended a welcome to the visitors in Italian. On 29th they visited Vykuntapuram community. After evaluating the apostolate of the Community and understanding its current needs proper instructions regarding the starting of a school were explained to them by the authorities concerned. On the same day itself the visitors returned to Vijayawada. On 30th September they were invited by the parish priest to visit the sub-stations where our sisters work. They honored them with their cultural attire. Sisters from Bihar and Jharkhand also came to Vijayawada to meet Mother General and councilors.

On October 1st they left Vijayawada community to Kuchipudi community. They were given very cordial welcome in words, in song and other programs. Then they went around visiting the various apostolic endeavors of the Community alone and in collaboration with the Sacred Hearts Fathers Community. On 2nd October they visited the community of the sacred hearts fathers of Kuchipudi.

On 3rd October Mother General and councilors flew to Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha. In the airport sisters from Chatrapur community received them and took them to the Convent, where they ha fruitful time with the community, aspirants and deaf and dumb children.

On 6th October they traveled back to Archana. On October 8th there was a meeting for the junior sisters. On 9th a meeting was held for superiors and formators. On 10th and 11 there was a meeting of the General Council with the Provincial Council. On 13th early morning after a very enriching and inspiring stay in India they returned to Italy.

Introduction

Here is the history of the Sisters of St. Dorothy, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts, in India. It was a courageous and confident step taken by our Mother General Rev. Sr. Gianna Rosa Sterbini, to start a new mission in India on 15th January, 1983.
