“Teaching Sisters of St. Dorothy, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts” in India

Feast of St. John Antony Farina and the
First Profession of Lourdu Mary Patibandla

January 14th 2017 was a day of happiness to the Congregation of the Teaching sisters of St. Dorothy Daughters of the Sacred Hearts, in a special way to the Province of India, because in this day we have celebrated the feast our Father Founder St. John Antony Farina and the first profession of our novices Lourdu Mary. On this auspicious day, she received the religious habit of the Congregation and also received the Dorothean Congregation’s Constitutions, her guide for living a life for others in response to the Gospel call of Christ.

The Province of India has been invaded by joy and gratitude to God for this precious gift of religious vocation. The novice Lourdu Mary has pronounced the vows before God, in the presence of Rev. Provincial Sr. Cloudienaliya Karumancheril. Rt. Rev. Dr. Thelagathoti Joseph Raja Rao S. M.M., the Bishop of the diocese of Vijayawada, who presided the solemn Eucharist. During the homily, the Bishop stressed the importance of religious life, importance of community life to live the vows faithfully and personal relationship with Christ for the perseverance of gift of Vocation. The presence of Father General of Sylvester Benedictine`s, Abbot Fr. Michel Kelly gave little more color to the celebration.

The function was well attended by the families of professed sister and a good number of religious, parish representatives and friends. Thank the Lord for the gifts we are receiving day by day is our duty. On this marvelous day we also felicitated the Jubilerians, Rev. Fr. James Mylackal osb (conventual Prior Vijayawada) and Rev. Fr. Jose Mathew Parambukattil osb (former conventual prior Vijayawada) in their 25 years of sacerdotal life.

After the Eucharistic celebration the feast continued with an agape and shared the joy of the day. The province humbly request your precious prayers for her spiritual journey just she began as a newly professed sister in this religious family and let us wish her all the best for her further journey.

Introduction

Here is the history of the Sisters of St. Dorothy, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts, in India. It was a courageous and confident step taken by our Mother General Rev. Sr. Gianna Rosa Sterbini, to start a new mission in India on 15th January, 1983.

John Antony Farina was born at Gambellara (Vicenza Province) on 11th January 1803 to Peter Farina and Francesca Bellame. He received his early training from his paternal uncle, a holy priest who was for him a true master of the spirit and a tutor as well.

We are convinced that at the time of our consecration to the love of the Sacred Hearts, the prophetic vision of our saintly Father Founder is being impressed in the hearts of each one of us.
